Vehicle fire closes part of SR 87 northeast of metro Phoenix

The southbound closure is at milepost 216 south of Sunflower on the roadway between Payson and Fountain Hills.

Part of State Route 87 is closed northeast of metro Phoenix because of a Friday afternoon vehicle fire, authorities said.

The closure is for southbound SR 87 traffic at milepost 216 south of Sunflower, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

There is no estimate for how long the highway will be closed.

The northbound lanes are not affected by the vehicle fire.

Sunflower is a community about 30 miles northeast of Fountain Hills along the roadway between Payson and the Valley.

SR 87 is also known as the Beeline Highway.
