PHOENIX – Want some ice cream? Food City’s Chandler location is opening Heladita, an ice cream and paleta shop featuring Hispanic flavors and culture.

There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday at 11 a.m at 1005 N. Arizona Avenue. There will also be free samples on Feb. 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and opportunities to win more prizes, including free ice cream for a year.

Food City is always looking for innovative, meaningful ways to better serve our customers and celebrate our communities,” Food City Brand Manager Carrie Strait said in a press release Tuesday. “Heladita brings a fun, high-quality dessert experience directly to our guests while honoring traditional Hispanic flavors they know and love. It’s about more than ice cream; it’s about culture, connection and creating moments of joy for families shopping with us.”

The Chandler location will be the first Heladita located inside a Food City store, which is a Hispanic market, in Arizona. There is an additional Heladita location set to open in Phoenix near 91st Avenue and Thomas Road on Feb. 11, and more locations are planned to open in select Food City stores statewide over the next three months.

Heladita features handmade ice cream and paletas with a wide variety of flavors. The menu highlights include mango, tamarind and coconut-milk-based paletas, along with cookies and crème, strawberry cheesecake, pistachio, bubble gum and cajeta-inspired ice cream, per the press release.

Heladita will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day of the week. The ice cream shop is opening just before February, which is National Chocolate Month. Heladita will have chocolate-flavored ice cream available by the scoop and also special ice creams aligning with five special days throughout the month (Feb. 6, 7, 14, 26 and 27).
