PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR) will hold its annual public auction of unclaimed property items starting this week.
The auction will be held online only. It will begin at noon Wednesday and end on April 13. Unclaimed items up for sale include safe deposit boxes, jewelry, coins, currency and collectibles, according to ADOR.
Details on ADOR’s unclaimed property auction
Interested buyers can look at the auction items in-person or online at Sierra Management, Inc., which is located near 35th Avenue and Indian School Road.
The contents of safe deposit boxes will be sold to the highest bidders. Proceeds from the auction sales will be transferred to an account for the lawful owners to claim.
The assets from unclaimed safe deposit boxes are protected by ADOR, until the funds can be returned to the owners.
ADOR’s Unclaimed Property Unit returns millions of dollars of unclaimed assets to their rightful owners. Last year, ADOR returned a record $88 million.
Unclaimed property is a financial asset that’s owed to a person or business. ADOR considers property unclaimed when there has been no contact with the owner between one to three years.
