Metro Phoenix is due for the coolest weather of the season so far after the storm system that hit the area over the weekend dries out.
The possibility of showers remains in the forecast until Tuesday, according to meteorologist Chris Kuhlman of the National Weather Service in Phoenix.
A low pressure system will bring additional chances for on and off showers through Tuesday afternoon before conditions dry up by midweek. Temperatures will also be well-below normal through midweek with lower desert highs struggling to reach 80°F. #azwx #cawx pic.twitter.com/PARdtGRCBO

“Today’s the main chance,” Kuhlman told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Monday morning. “I mean, there will be maybe a few little lingering showers tomorrow morning for the morning commute. But other than that, once the drier air moves in by, like, tomorrow afternoon, there’s really no chance for rain the rest of the week.”
Phoenix could see highs in the 70s for first time since April
Meanwhile, temperatures will dip to their lowest levels in months by midweek, with forecast highs in the upper 70s and overnight lows in the upper 50s. Normally, mid-October highs for Phoenix are around 90 degrees and lows are in the mid-60s.
Phoenix hasn’t had a day when the temperature didn’t reach at least 80 degrees since April 14. March 11 was the last time with a low temperature below 60 degrees.
“We’ll stay below normal for temperatures all the way through the workweek. We may even stay below normal through the weekend,” Kuhlman said.
Kuhlman also warned that strong winds could be a factor later in the week.
“The only thing we’ll really have to … worry about is some gusty winds that we’ll have starting Friday, and some of those winds may be reaching like 30 to 40 miles per hour during the morning time,” he said.
How much rain fell over the weekend?
The weekend storm system produced measurable rainfall across the Valley, with more than an inch coming down in the hardest-hit spots.
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which the weather service uses for the city’s official readings, received a total of 0.30 inches Saturday and Sunday.
