Rain is likely in metro Phoenix this weekend as the remnants of Hurricane Rachel move through the Southwest.
Friday night has a 20% chance of showers, while Saturday has a 50% chance, according to the National Weather Service. The odds increase going into Saturday night, which has a 90% chance of showers.
There’s also a chance of rain and thunderstorms on Columbus Day this Monday.
“Right now, we’re not expecting any flooding issues, but we will have to keep an eye on that,” NWS meteorologist Alicia Ryan told KTAR News 92.3 FM Thursday.
Moisture from Hurricane Rachel heads toward metro Phoenix
Those in the Valley can attribute Hurricane Rachel for the residual moisture.
An unsettled weather pattern will take shape this weekend and continue through the first half of next week. This pattern will bring much cooler temperatures, breezy to locally windy conditions, and multiple rounds of rain to the region.

Additionally, temperatures will be much cooler than the triple-digit temperatures that have been baking the Valley.
“Temperatures will be dropping down,” Ryan said. “We’re above normal right now, as I’m sure everyone can feel, but we’re expecting by Saturday to drop to the low 90s and then even into the mid to low 80s for Sunday [and] Monday.”
