Man indicted for shooting that killed unsheltered man and injured 2 others at Tempe park

PHOENIX — A man suspected of shooting at a group of unsheltered people in Tempe last month was indicted for first-degree murder on Tuesday after one of the victims died.

Aaron Sussex, 37, shot and killed Randolph Fraser, 56, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

Sussex also allegedly injured two other unsheltered people at Mitchell Park.

Why did the man open fire at a Tempe park?

Sussex is believed to have known the victims, and the attack was targeted towards an individual, according to authorities.

Fraser was shot in the neck and later died from his injuries, according to authorities.

The other two victims are expected to recover from their injuries.

Sussex faces the following felony charges:

• One count of first-degree murder.
• Two counts of aggravated assault.
• Two counts of endangerment.
• One count of misconduct involving weapons.
• One count of disorderly conduct.

Sussex is being held on a cash-only $500,000 bond, according to authorities.

His trial is scheduled for October.
