Singer Christina Grimmie’s death has inspired a huge outpouring of support for the family, both by those closest to her and by strangers around the world.
Marcus Grimmie, brother of the young singer who rose to fame on YV’s “The Voice,” posted to Facebook on Sunday night that not only had a gofundme account created by her manager for funeral expenses reached $100,000 in donations but Adam Levine called the Grimmies’ mother and offered to pay funeral services.
Levine coached the the singer on the show in 2014.
He posted on his Facebook page Saturday morning that he and his wife were “devastated and heartbroken” about the “senseless act of extreme violence” that took the 22-year-old’s life.
Levine also posted a photo of himself and Grimmie goofing around.
Marcus Grimmie wrote that he didn’t want any more donations on the gofundme account that has now reached over $170,000 in donations, but that what he wanted was for “a kind word, message or picture in the comments.”
He also encouraged those reading to sign their names on a digital petition to get a character named after his sister in the next release of her favorite video game series, “The Legend of Zelda.”
Christina Grimmie was shot and killed Friday night in Orlando while signing autographs after a show.
