PHOENIX — In Feburary, we celebrated National Pizza Day. Five months before, it was National Cheese Pizza Day.

Friday’s holiday goes one step further and honors what many consider the best kind of pizza: deep dish.

No one knows for sure who originated the glorious creation, but historians say it was first made in Chicago sometime in the mid-1900s.

Looking for a dessert that matches the holiday’s theme?

Unfortunately it has yet to exist — Giordano’s broke a lot of hearts on Monday when for April Fool’s Day it advertised a deep dish dessert pizza stuffed with Nutella and house-made strawberry sauce.

Whether you eat it with your hands or a knife and fork, the Valley offers some solid spots to celebrate National Deep Dish Pizza Day.

Here are some of the best places in the Phoenix area to grab a slice of gooey cheesy goodness, according to Yelp.

We want to hear from you.
