Alex Barnett, 3rd suspect in fatal shooting of Tucson police recruit, taken into custody

Alex Barnett, the third suspect in the fatal shooting of a Tucson police recruit last week, was reportedly taken into custody on Monday night.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a social media post Pima Regional SWAT was serving a search warrant near Broadway Boulevard and Camino Seco.

KGUN 9 reported that Barnett, who was the subject of a Blue Alert last week, was taken into custody without incident during the search warrant.

A first-degree murder warrant was issued for Barnett in connection with the killing of 23-year-old Carlos Ramirez.

On Saturday, 39-year-old Santiago Jorge Rogers was arrested at a Tucson hotel in relation to the shooting and an unidentified suspect was located but not taken into custody as investigators work to determine his involvement.

Ramirez and his 23-year-old fiancee were found with gunshot wounds just before 6 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the Valencia West community west of Tucson. Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene and his fiancee was hospitalized in stable condition with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Ramirez served as a Pima County Sheriff’s Department corrections officer before becoming a Tucson Police Department recruit. His fiancee, whose name was not released, is a current Pima County corrections officer.
