Dignity Health, Phoenix Children’s break ground on East Valley center

PHOENIX — City leaders, corporate executives and patients at Dignity Health and Phoenix Children’s Hospital joined together Thursday for the groundbreaking of a new women’s and children’s center.
Women’s and Children Pavilion, a state-of-the-art medical center, is designed and located in the East Valley with the purpose of better serving the needs of women and children in the community.

The 373,947-square-foot medical center is located just off the Loop 202 and Val Vista Drive on the Dignity Health Mercy Gilbert Medical Center campus in Gilbert, Arizona.
“Just to put the size of this into perspective, it’s bigger than our current footprint of our hospital today at this campus,” Mark Slyter, the president and CEO of Dignity Health East Valley, said.
The Women’s and Children’s Pavilion will include 24 labor and delivery rooms, including six that will be dedicated to high-risk patients, and 48 postpartum beds operated by Mercy Gilbert.
It will also include an emergency department dedicated to obstetrics, focusing on childbirth and the care of women giving birth. Phoenix Children’s will also man 48 pediatric beds, a 12-bed pediatric emergency department, pediatric operating rooms and a 60-bed Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit.
Bob Meyer, the president and CEO of Phoenix Children’s Hospital, said hospital officials listened to their patients’ families and are reaching out to a group of people who need these services.
“This pavilion is an extension of the force Phoenix Children’s Hospital and Dignity Health can provide together,” Linda Hunt, the president and CEO of Dignity Health Arizona, said.
“It means better care for families in this rapid growing part of the Phoenix area.”
The center is expected to be complete in 2020.
