SC Gov. Haley to pay fine, forward 8 donations

Jul 16, 2013, 8:52 PM

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has agreed to pay a $3,500 fine for not properly identifying eight donors to her 2010 campaign.

In a consent order signed this week with the State Ethics Commission, the first-term Republican also agrees to forward the combined $4,200 in donations to the Children’s Trust Fund and reimburse the ethics agency $2,000.

It resolves a complaint filed in July 2011 by a state Democratic Party employee. It accused Haley of violating state ethics law by not disclosing the addresses of dozens of donors.

The commission determined eight addresses weren’t supplied within the required seven days of receipt. Only one donor who gave $200 was not identified eventually.

In the order, Haley says her campaign’s noncompliance with the law’s strict requirements was inadvertent.
