Equal opportunity — or a setback for efforts to address discrimination? That’s the debate over Arizona’s Proposition 142.
On the November ballot, Prop 142 would amend the state constitution to expand restrictions on race-based preferences and DEI — diversity, equity and inclusion — in government and public education. It would also extend restrictions to entities receiving federal funds.
Supporters say it would ensure equal treatment regardless of race. Opponents argue it would undermine efforts to help groups that have faced historic discrimination.
