PHOENIX — State officials announced Friday that nearly 12,000 more COVID-19 vaccine appointments will open up at the University of Arizona vaccination site for the upcoming week.

Online registration for the new appointments will be available on the Arizona Department of Health Services website beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Eligibility at the Tucson site has been expanded to include Arizonans 55 and older.

Those in phases 1A, which includes healthcare workers and residents and staff in long-term care facilities, and prioritized 1B, which includes those 65 and older, educators, and protective services workers, are still eligible to make appointments.

UArizona currently operates seven days a week between 10 a.m and 10 p.m., but aims to transition to 24 hours a day if more vaccine supply becomes available.

Since opening in late January, the state-run site has administered nearly 55,000 vaccine doses, according to the university. It is in the process of ramping up its capacity to 2,500 shots per day by next week.

For information about availability across the state, the ADHS website has a vaccine-finder page with a map of locations and information about registration.

The website also has an eligibility-checker tool that lets you know if you are cleared to sign up for a COVID-19 vaccine.

We want to hear from you.
