PHOENIX — About two months after vaccine distribution began in Arizona, the total amount of doses administered in the state passed a million on Wednesday, according to Gov. Doug Ducey.

State health officials reported about 997,000 doses doled out since early December as of Wednesday morning’s latest update. Arizona has been vaccinating more than 30,000 residents daily in recent weeks.

Of the million shots administered, about 210,000 residents have received both doses of the vaccine.

“We’ve reached a major milestone with our one millionth dose,” Ducey said in a press release. “The dedication and hard work of many made this accomplishment possible. Nurses, doctors, health technicians, support staff, volunteers — to each and every one of you, thank you. ”

Vaccine distribution has increased rapidly as the state continues to roll out mass vaccination sites.

The third of its kind, located at the University of Arizona in Tucson, was announced Wednesday.

State Farm Stadium in Glendale opened for 24/7 vaccine service Jan. 11. Phoenix Municipal Stadium followed as a daytime-only site Feb. 1.

Both have the capacity to give 12,000 shots per day but are operating below that level while vaccine remains in short supply.

For more information about statewide vaccine availability, the ADHS website has a vaccine-finder page with a map of locations and information about registration.
