A man and two women died in the single-car accident near 51st Avenue and Elliot Road about 3 a.m., Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said in an email.

The car was burning when officers and a Phoenix Fire Department crew arrived. The man who had been driving and the two passengers were dead in the car, Fortune said.

Investigators said it appeared the driver lost control of the car and crashed into a concrete drainage ditch.
