PHOENIX – In his first major trip since the spread of COVID-19 became a national crisis, President Donald Trump is coming to Arizona on Tuesday.
The president is expected to arrive at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport at 11:40 a.m. and depart to Washington at 2:20 p.m.
Trump is planning to tour a Phoenix Honeywell facility that retooled to produce N95 masks during the coronavirus pandemic, and he will deliver remarks afterward.
In comments made before boarding, Trump indicated he’d wear a mask during the Honeywell tour.
“If it’s a mask facility I will. I don’t know if it’s a mask facility, but we’re going to see Honeywell,” he said. “They have done an incredible job on many fronts.
“And so I’m going to pay my respects to a great company and a great state: the state of Arizona.”
Before heading to Honeywell, Trump is scheduled to take part in a roundtable discussion on supporting Native Americans.
It’s an honor to be invited by @realDonaldTrump to fly on Air Force One to the GREAT state of Arizona. @honeywell stepped up in a really big way, producing millions of N95 masks for our amazing healthcare workers!🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/4wVsiWLKdF

Sen. Martha McSally, and Reps. Paul Gosar and Debbie Lesko are accompanying the president on the flight to their home state, and Reps. David Schweikert and Andy Biggs will join the group at the Honeywell plant. Gov. Doug Ducey will also be part of the contingent.
“I think it’s a way to say both thank you to industry for doing that, but also to sort of [boost] the morale of the workers and letting them know they are truly appreciated,” Schweikert told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Tuesday morning.
Schweikert said he’s collected creative products from local businesses produced during the coronavirus outbreak, and he plans to demonstrate them for White House staff.
He cited a laser-cutting company that’s been making protective shields for medical workers as an example.
“They just want to know that they have channels to be able to sell these, distribute them to health care workers,” Schweikert said.
Besides Tuesday’s trip, Trump said he will travel soon to Ohio, to New York in June for the U.S. Military Academy graduation and to South Dakota in July for a holiday fireworks display at Mount Rushmore.
He’s been eager to get back on the campaign trail, too, though he acknowledged during a Fox News forum Sunday that he might not be able to hold his signature large-scale rallies until the final months before the Nov. 3 election.
“I’ve been at the White House now for many months, and I’d like to get out, as much as I love this. … Most beautiful house in the world,” Trump said in announcing his travel plans.
Trump did take a March 28 trip to Norfolk, Virginia, to see a Navy hospital ship off to New York and a had weekend stay at the Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland.
