PHOENIX — A Chandler nursing center said Friday that 40 of its residents have tested positive for COVID-19 and four have died since the first case of the virus was reported last week in the facility.
Desert Cove Nursing Center, located near Dobson and Frye roads, said it had its first positive coronavirus case on April 24.
Twenty-nine of the residents are still in isolation in the facility while seven residents are receiving care at local hospitals, Desert Cove said.
Additionally, 13 associates at the facility have tested positive for COVID-19.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the residents who have passed away as the result of COVID-19,” Timothy Bouseman, executive director for Desert Cove Nursing Center, said in a statement.
“Our facility is a family, and we’re all working together to take care of our residents and each other. We remain committed to providing quality care as we fight COVID-19.”
Bouseman said the facility is in close contact with state and local health officials and family members about the safety of the residents.
On April 21, another Chandler nursing center — Pennington Gardens — reported 13 deaths and a total of 28 positive coronavirus cases at its facility.
There had been 7,962 reported coronavirus cases and 330 deaths in Arizona as of Friday morning.
“We are working closely with the Arizona Department of Health, the Agency for Health Care Administration and the local health department to ensure we are taking the appropriate steps at this time,” Bouseman said.
