Arson is common element in Phoenix burglaries in 2021, 2019

This burglar pulled a James Bond move to get into a Valley restaurant.

“The suspect broke into the business by using a thin strap to lower himself through a roof vent,” explains Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Reaume.

It happened just after midnight Sept. 4, 2019. The target was La Carreta De Lily Restaurant at Van Buren Street and 29th Avenue.

“In this case it was an arson and a commercial burglary,” Reaume says.

Wearing a light-colored hoodie, sweat pants and a backpack with a big Nike logo on it, the thief took several items from the restaurant then started a fire inside.

He got away but not before he was caught on video.

Our next case also features an arsonist in a hoodie. It was just after 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 24, 2021.

“This happened northeast of [Interstate 17] and Bell [Road] in the iStorage Public Storage. In this case, the suspect lit one of the units on fire which spread to several other units,” Reaume says.

Both the bad guy and his vehicle were caught on-camera.

“We have a description of a white pickup truck. It’s four doors and possibly and a Nissan Titan or Frontier.”
