Meghan McCain says brother has ‘no interest in public office’ after turning down Lt. governor role

Meghan McCain said her brother Jimmy McCain has no interest in entering politics, laughing off the idea that he would have joined Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs’ ticket as lieutenant governor.

“I don’t think he has any interest in public office,” McCain said Monday on KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Outspoken with Bruce & Gaydos. “When he originally told me it happened, and I knew about this a while ago, I just like laughed because I just thought it was kind of absurd.”

She said Jimmy is focused on his Army career and his work at Hensley Beverage Company, the family’s beer distribution business.

Last year, Hobbs appointed Jimmy McCain to the Arizona Board of Regents in September as the representative for northern Arizona.

Cindy and Jimmy McCain will host a two-day fundraising retreat in Sedona in September on behalf of Hobbs, lending the state’s most storied Republican name to the re-election campaign of the Democratic incumbent, MSNOW reported.

Hobbs’ Republican opponent Andy Biggs, who won the GOP primary last week with 74% of the vote, has been courting McCain Republicans on the campaign trail.

Biggs has highlighted a bipartisan bill he worked on with John McCain during the late senator’s final term.

Jimmy McCain registered as a Democrat in 2024 and backed Kamala Harris later that year.

Cindy McCain endorsed Joe Biden in 2020.

Meghan McCain did not offer support to any candidate but signaled a break from her family.

“I have always been more conservative than everyone in my family,” she said. “I have gotten a lot more conservative in a post-COVID time.”
