Weekend wrap-up: Here are the biggest Arizona stories from Oct. 4-6

The return of the Arizona State Fair, the opening of an Arizona Snowbowl chairlift and the arrest of a suspected Chandler triple shooter.

Here is a guide on what to know for the 2019 Arizona State Fair

It’s October in the Valley, which means it’s state fair time.

The Arizona State Fair returned Friday and will run through Oct. 27 (Wednesdays-Sundays) at its central Phoenix home.

Visitors will get their traditional tastes, smells and thrills while enjoying new options the fair has to offer.

“We have several new attractions as well as all the old family traditions,” Jen Yee, assistant executive director for the Arizona State Fair, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Thursday.

Arizona Snowbowl chairlift now open for beautiful views of northern Arizona

Autumn fanatics and visitors of northern Arizona can now take in the beautiful colors of the season, breathtaking views of the Sedona red rocks and the Grand Canyon from one central location.

Arizona Snowbowl is now offering rides on its chairlift from Friday through Oct. 20. Guests can ride the chairlift from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Weather permitting, the chairlift will take guests to 11,500 feet, providing views of the fall scenery surrounding the resort.

Riders will also have the opportunity to have their questions about the region’s history, geology and volcanic origins answered by forest officials at the top of the ride.

Shooting suspect taken into custody by Chandler Police Department

A man who was suspected of shooting three family members at a home northwest of Arizona Avenue and Galveston Street was arrested Saturday by Chandler police.

Victor Morales, 26, was located around 11:40 a.m. in an alley north of the crime scene.

Police were dispatched to the location of the shooting after receiving numerous phone calls around 10:30 p.m. on Friday.

Upon arrival, officers found one Hispanic male deceased from a gunshot wound, later identified as Morales’ father, and two Hispanic females injured with gunshot wounds, later identified as his mother and sister.

Toddlers seen wandering in Gilbert after preschool gate failure

Police said seven preschool children were found wandering the streets Friday after they found their way out of a gated Gilbert playground.

According to Gilbert Police Sgt. Mark Marino, the children were ages 2-3 and attended Little Sunshine’s Playhouse and Preschool.

“Three witnesses driving by happened to see kids by the road, stopped, assisted (and) notified the school,” Marino said. “The kids were back in the school by the time we got to that location.”

Police responded to 911 calls at around 9:44 a.m. The children were found wandering near the intersection of Val Vista Drive and Baseline Road.

Taste of Cave Creek to host over 30 restaurants, 21 breweries this month

The town of Cave Creek will be holding its 25th annual food and beverage tasting event Oct. 16-17.

The two-day Taste of Cave Creek will host over 30 restaurants and 21 breweries in a beer garden. The event will run from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and will feature fare from local restaurants and bars accompanied by live music.

Stagecoach Village shopping and dining center at Cave Creek Road and Galloway Drive will host the event.

Musical artists Fosterson and Lindsey Vogt will take the stage Wednesday night, while Crown Kings and Vogt will wrap up the event Thursday.

“Every year we look forward to this great event,” Marshal Adam Stein, event chairman, said on the festival website. “Honestly, I think my favorite part is seeing all our friends and neighbors coming out and enjoying our awesome local restaurants.”
