Oct 1, 2024, 5:44 AM | Updated: 10:28 am

PHOENIX — The westbound Loop 303 lanes in Peoria reopened on Tuesday morning after a commercial truck trailer carrying candy bars caught fire and caused a closure, authorities said.

The initial closure started at 43rd Avenue in the north Valley, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).

The fire completely blocked the westbound lanes, the Arizona Department of Safety (DPS) told KTAR News 92.3 FM around 5:30 a.m.

There were no reported injuries.

However, the commercial truck had been loaded with Twix candy bars, leaving dozens of chocolates melted by the side of the road.

The fire erupted in the right-rear trailer wheel area of a westbound commercial semi-truck near milepost 137, DPS said.

The trailer was disconnected from the truck tractor, DPS said. The driver heard a popping sound and pulled over.

ADOT originally directed drivers to exit at 43rd Avenue.

No further details were released.
