Minor arrested on suspicion of shooting teen girl in Phoenix

PHOENIX — A minor was arrested after allegedly shooting a teenage girl in Phoenix on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Officers with the Phoenix Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the area of Cave Creek and Bell roads around 8:15 a.m.

They found a teenage girl with a gunshot wound.

She was brought to a nearby hospital with injuries that were considered non-life-threatening, police said.

“The suspect in this case is a juvenile and was arrested,” Phoenix police spokesman Rob Scherer told KTAR News 92.3 FM Tuesday afternoon. “There are no further updates on this case.”

Youth violence is far from rare in the Valley. In August, Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said violence — and the “eagerness” to use weapons — was increasing among teens.

The Phoenix Police Department is currently revising its Youth Interactions Policy, which has been released to the public to review.

Through Saturday, Nov. 22, the public is encouraged to review the policy and share input.
