Woman arrested for DUI after 4-vehicle crash in Phoenix leaves 1 critically injured

A 21-year-old woman was booked into jail on DUI charges after allegedly causing a four-vehicle crash in Phoenix early Thursday morning that left a male with life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Officers responded to multiple calls around 3:15 a.m. regarding a multi-vehicle collision near 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road, where callers reported that at least one person had been ejected from a vehicle.

Preliminary information and witness statements indicate that 21-year-old Briyanna Nicole Paz swerved into oncoming traffic, triggering the four-vehicle crash, police said.

Upon arrival, officers reported smelling alcohol on Paz and discovered open alcohol containers inside her vehicle. Following Standard Field Sobriety Tests, police determined Paz was impaired at the scene.

Phoenix Fire Department personnel responded to treat multiple victims for injuries. One man was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Paz was arrested and booked into Maricopa County Jail.
