Details on the attic fire that left a man in the hospital
Surprise Fire and Medical said that the man was welding with an acetylene torch when it flashed burning him and igniting a fire.
There was a coworker in the attic at the time of the incident who was able to assist him out of the attic and mitigate the fire with a fire extinguisher until firefighters arrived.
The man was transported in critical condition to a local burn center. Due to the swelling in his trachea, paramedics had to perform an advanced air way technique in order to secure his airway and provide him with oxygen.
The house did have smoke damage as well as some minor fire damage in the attic.
