A semi-truck rolled over and spilled large amounts of hydrated lime in Chino Valley on Thursday, authorities announced on Saturday.

First responder crews received reports of the incident around 10:52 p.m. along State Route 89 near mile marker 333, according to the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA).

Responding crews found the vehicle significantly damaged, with white powder covering the surrounding area and the driver trapped inside.

Authorities confirmed the powder was hydrated lime and established a safety perimeter to limit access to the affected area and protect anyone nearby.

The driver was rescued from the semi-truck, assessed, decontaminated and taken by CAFMA Rescue 62 to Yavapai Regional Medical Center.

A firefighter was also taken to the medical center out of precaution after experiencing irritation from the hydrated lime and was released later that night, authorities said.

The Chino Valley Police Department is investigating the incident.
