Glendale officers fatally shoot armed man shortly after he called suicide crisis hotline

PHOENIX – Glendale police officers shot and killed a suicidal man who allegedly pointed a gun at them early Thursday, authorities said.

The police shooting occurred not long after 28-year-old Adrian Green called a suicide crisis hotline, according to the Glendale Police Department.

Green’s behavior on the call prompted the crisis line to request a police response. Police were told that Green was armed with a loaded gun outside a home near 8900 W. Maryland Ave., in a neighborhood just east of State Farm Stadium.

Officers staged a short distance away from the home after arriving at the scene around 12:35 a.m. and deployed a drone to observe Green.

While officers were devising an action plan, Green fired his weapon twice, police said. Two officers then approached Green, who allegedly pointed his gun at them, prompting them to shoot him.

Green was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.

The Buckeye Police Department is investigating the shooting as part of the West Valley Incident Response Team.

Glendale incident was 4th Valley police shooting in 3 days

It was the second overnight shooting involving Valley police early Thursday. Mesa officers shot a man who allegedly pointed a gun at them just after midnight.

That came after metro Phoenix law enforcement agencies were involved in two other shootings this week.

On Tuesday, officers with the Avondale Police Department shot and killed a man who was wielding what turned out to be a cap gun.

On Wednesday, a man was hospitalized with injuries that aren’t considered life-threatening after getting shot by Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies at the White Tank Mountain Regional Park near Waddell.
