Authorities have identified the driver accused of crashing an SUV into a parked police vehicle in Phoenix on Friday night, sending an officer to the hospital.
Johnny Newell Newberry, 58, was booked into jail on charges related to driving under the influence, among others, according to police.
When officers contacted Newberry at the scene, they located a firearm and drug paraphernalia inside his vehicle.
The incident unfolded around 9:50 p.m. near Maryland Avenue and the State Route 51, inside a Phoenix city facility yard.
Police said Newberry drove an SUV out of a parking lot to the north, crashed through a perimeter fence, traveled down a berm and slammed into a marked Phoenix Police Tahoe parked near the fuel pumps.
The force of the impact threw an officer from the vehicle. The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where they were listed in stable condition.
No additional injuries or property damage were reported.
The investigation remains ongoing.

You might be a drunk redneck if...
you crash through a perimeter fence, travel down a berm and slam into a marked Phoenix Police Tahoe.
Just sayin'.
Darn lousy drunks. We need to change the law for how we deal with those fools. I say one arrest/incident because you're drunk and that's it. The free ride is over. Do it again and you will lose your license, and they'll confiscate your mode of transportation, too.
