3 hospitalized after head-on crash in Phoenix; authorities suspect alcohol was involved

Three people were hospitalized after a head-on collision in west Phoenix early Thursday, and authorities suspect alcohol was a factor.

Officers responded to the crash site near 79th Avenue and Van Buren Street around 2:30 a.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.

A truck was heading west on Van Buren Street and crossed into the eastbound side of the roadway, where it collided with a sedan carrying two people, police said.

The truck’s driver had to be extracted by fire department personnel.

All three people involved were taken to a hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, police said.

Investigators are working to determine if alcohol was a factor in the collision.
