84-year-old man struck, killed while crossing Phoenix street

An 84-year-old pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle on Thursday night, authorities said. The collision took place around 7:30 p.m.

PHOENIX — An 84-year-old pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Phoenix on Thursday night, authorities said.

Officers with the Phoenix Police Department responded to the scene near 32nd Street and Bell Road around 7:37 p.m.

They found Edward Pickles seriously injured. He was brought to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of vehicle stayed on the scene after the collision, police said. Impairment is not believed to be a factor.

Pickles apparently was crossing 32nd Street mid-block near Campo Bello Drive when he was hit, police said.

A charging decision will be made after the investigation is completed.

No other details were made available.
