Firefighters find 1 person dead inside home while battling Mesa blaze

PHOENIX – A person was found dead at the scene of an east Mesa house fire early Monday, authorities said.

When crews arrived at the home near Broadway and Sossaman roads around 1:30 a.m., they encountered heavy fire conditions, according to the Mesa Fire and Medical Department.

They searched as much of the interior as possible and found one occupant, who was deceased.

The search was limited because of heavy flames and a collapsing roof.

Firefighters had to battle the blaze from outside the structure, using ladder trucks and exterior hand lines.

An investigation into the cause of the Mesa house fire is underway. Authorities said they don’t suspect foul play.
