Motorcyclist dies in high-speed crash in Phoenix

A man is dead after crashing his motorcycle into an access barrier near Black Canyon Highway in Phoenix on Sunday night, authorities said.

A man is dead after crashing his motorcycle into an access barrier near Black Canyon Highway in Phoenix on Sunday night, authorities said.

The Phoenix Fire Department found an unresponsive motorcyclist around 9:40 p.m. near Black Canyon Access and Deer Valley Road. The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Phoenix Police Department on Monday identified him as 33-year-old Mathew James Russell.

Detectives said Russell had been heading north on Black Canyon Access Road but did not turn enough before colliding with the barrier.

Speed is considered a factor in the collision.

No other vehicle involved. Speed suspected to be involved. Rider runs into a dividing barrier. Sad for his family, based on the reporting above, perhaps not so much for the rider.
