Woman has life-threatening injuries after weekend UTV crash near Lake Pleasant

A woman is fighting for her life after a pickup truck and a utility terrain vehicle collided north of Lake Pleasant over the weekend, authorities said Wednesday.

Seven people were hospitalized after Sunday afternoon’s head-on collision, four in critical condition and three with minor injuries, according to the Peoria Police Department.

On Wednesday, police said the patients who are still in the hospital are in stable condition, but one woman has life-threatening injuries.

Authorities responded to the crash site near Castle Hot Springs and Cow Creek roads, about 1 mile east of Castle Hot Springs in Yavapai County, around 1:45 p.m. Sunday.

An initial investigation suggested the UTV was traveling northbound and the truck was headed southbound, while reduced visibility as a result of dust could have been a factor.

Teens among those injured in collision near Lake Pleasant

While the specific ages and conditions of the victims have not been released, officials confirmed that multiple juveniles were among the injured, with ages ranging from 16 to 48.

Seven individuals were in the UTV, including two adults. Authorities said the driver was believed to be a minor and some passengers were not properly seated when the crash occurred.

Two adults were inside the truck, authorities said.

Three people were flown to a hospital by helicopter, while four others were transported by ground ambulances.

No other details about the investigation have been released. It is not yet clear if speed or impairment played a factor in the crash.
