PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey announced during a Monday press conference that barber shops and hair salons can reopen their services to the public on Friday.

Ducey said the reopening businesses must adhere to health guidelines and protections as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Such businesses much also implement enhanced sanitation protocols, enforce social distancing measures and utilize personal protective equipment during business hours, according to Ducey.

“There will be reduced capacity and occupancy,” the governor added.

Ducey had initially deemed salons and barber shops essential earlier this year before reversing course and issuing guidelines that closed such businesses — along with tanning salons, tattoo parlors, spas and massage parlors — on April 5.

“Public health has been the top concern and it will remain the top concern,” Ducey said.

Ducey’s guidelines for hair salons, barber shops and their customers recommends that those at higher risk for severe illness continue to avoid visiting such establishments.

Businesses are also responsible for training their employees regarding enhanced sanitation measures.

Earlier on Monday, AZDHS announced an increase of 279 confirmed coronavirus cases with a total death count of 362. No deaths were reported for the second time in a week.
