Investigation underway after 2 people were found dead inside Phoenix apartment

An investigation is underway after a man and a woman were found dead during a welfare check at a Phoenix apartment over the weekend, authorities said.

Officers responded to an apartment complex near 27th and Glenrosa avenues, north of Indian School Road, about 2:30 p.m. Saturday after someone reported that a family member had not been heard from recently, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

From the window, the officers could see what appeared to be a body. They entered the apartment and found a second body.

Homicide detectives were called to investigate the case because the remains were in a state of decomposition.

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the bodies and is working to determine their cause of death.
