Washington fugitive wanted for child sex crimes arrested in Arizona

PHOENIX – A fugitive wanted for child sex crimes in Washington was arrested in Arizona on Thursday, federal authorities said.

Clay Weldon Myers is accused of inappropriate contact with a 13-year-old girl he met at the horse farm where he worked, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

He is facing charges of rape of a child, sexual exploitation of a minor and possession of child pornography in Snohomish County, Washington.

He was released on bond while awaiting trial, but a warrant was issued for his arrest after he missed a court hearing on April 16. Authorities believed he fled the state.

Investigators learned he was hiding out in Yuma and asked the Marshals Service to help apprehend him.

Members of a Marshals Service task force and the Yuma Police Department found Myers at a Yuma residence and took him into custody without incident.

The fugitive is being held at the Yuma County Detention Center while awaiting extradition to Washington.
