Scottsdale kindergarten teacher accused of accessing child sexual abuse material

PHOENIX — A Scottsdale kindergarten teacher was arrested Tuesday after it discovered he accessed child sexual abuse material on one of his personal devices, authorities said.

The Scottsdale Police Department identified the teacher as 30-year-old Diego Florentine Franco Ontamucha.

Ontamucha was booked into jail on one count of child exploitation of a minor after being taken into custody at his Mesa home by Scottsdale Human Exploitation and Trafficking Unit detectives working with the Arizona Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

A search warrant was served at Ontamucha’s residence for related evidence.

In a letter to families, Scottsdale Unified School District said that Ontamucha has been fired from his role at Pueblo Elementary School and will not return to the district.

The district also emphasized that all employees go through an extensive background check and must possess a valid fingerprint clearance card before being able to work with students.

Police and the district noted that there is currently no evidence indicating that any students are involved.
