Arizona flags lowered to honor fallen law enforcement officers

Why are Arizona flags flying at half-staff on Friday?

Gov. Katie Hobbs issued an order for flags on state buildings to be lowered from sunrise to sunset in honor of National Peace Officers Memorial Day.

“Today, we honor law enforcement officers who gave their lives in the line of duty. Every day, we are grateful for the men and women in law enforcement who make sacrifices to keep Arizonans and Americans safe. We stand with and mourn alongside the families, colleagues and communities who have lost loved ones in law enforcement,” Hobbs said in a statement.

Arizona residents, businesses and other organizations are encouraged to join the tribute.
