PHOENIX — A man who allegedly strangled an Arizona Department of Child Safety case worker in Mesa earlier this month was formally charged on Thursday, authorities said.

A grand jury indicted 32-year-old Deandre Terrell Johnson on multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

Johnson also faces one count each of aggravated assault and unlawful flight from a law enforcement vehicle and four counts of disorderly conduct related to the Nov. 5 incident.

Johnson is accused of strangling a case worker to the point of unconsciousness after a meeting about a case involving his daughter.

Suspect allegedly livestreamed attack on case worker

According to ABC15, the suspect livestreamed the attack at Mesa Tower, near Southern Avenue and Alma School Road, on social media.

Prosecutors said he tried to flee in his vehicle afterward but was captured by the Mesa Police Department.

Johnson is being held in a Maricopa County jail on a $500,000 bond. He was ordered to appear in court to answer to the indictment next Thursday.
