Man hospitalized for arm wound after getting shot by police in West Valley

PHOENIX – A West Valley police officer shot a man carrying a gun in the arm early Friday, authorities said.

Police responded to a home near Rainbow Road and Sundance Parkway to investigate a fight involving multiple subjects around 3:45 a.m., according to the Buckeye Police Department.

“The first arriving officer saw a man armed with a gun. Shortly after, an officer-involved shooting occurred,” Carissa Planalp, a Buckeye Police spokesperson, said in a media advisory.

What happened after Buckeye police shooting?

The officer applied a tourniquet to stanch the bleeding until emergency medical personnel arrived. The wounded man was then taken to a hospital for treatment.

No officers were injured and no suspects are outstanding.

Details about what prompted the officer to shoot the man were not released.

The Glendale Police Department is leading the investigation into the police shooting as part of the West Valley Investigative Response Team.

Residents of the neighborhood, which is south of Yuma Road, were told to expect a significant law enforcement presence for several hours.
