Arizona immigration attorney reacts to receiving deportation notice from US government
An Arizona immigration attorney who is a U.S. citizen isn’t sure why she received notice from the federal government that she needs to self-deport.
“Maybe incompetence, maybe intimidation. Most likely incompetence,” Pamela Rioles Saeed, who was born in Boston and works in Tucson, told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Outspoken with Bruce and Gaydos on Thursday.
Rioles Saeed said some of her clients received the same notice from the Department of Homeland Security last week as part of the Trump administration’s efforts to ramp up deportations.
“Only difference being I’m the U.S. citizen,” she said.
Downtown Phoenix housing project opens for homeless veterans and seniors
A new downtown Phoenix housing project that will serve homeless veterans and seniors held a grand opening ceremony on Monday.
The 48-unit complex called Osborn Point is one of the many housing projects made possible through Native American Connections (NAC). This nonprofit offers housing, health services and treatment for those with substance use disorder.
Osborn Pointe is located at 3406 N. Third Street and will house homeless veterans and people aged 55 and over.
The apartment units are fully furnished and move-in ready with medical centers close by.
Developer sells north Scottsdale luxury property for record cash price
Dallas-based Leon Multifamily sold its Soltra Kierland luxury apartment property in north Scottsdale for $107.5 million cash.
The transaction represents the highest price per unit for a multifamily sale in metro Phoenix since 2022, said Matt Pesch, vice chairman of CBRE’s Phoenix Multifamily Institutional Properties.
The sale price amounted to $532,178.22 per unit, with the deal closing on April 15, according to Tempe-based Vizzda LLC.
Axon officially cleared to build HQ, housing development in Scottsdale after governor signs bill
Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs signed a controversial bill on Friday that will block a scheduled citizen vote on Axon Enterprise Inc.’s massive construction project in Scottsdale.
The law, which came to her desk as Senate Bill 1543, will make local rezoning an administrative action not subject to referendum petitions.
This will benefit Axon, which previously had its plans to build a headquarters and housing development thwarted by a petition effort.
Rain, high winds hit Phoenix area Friday evening ahead of Easter weekend
A cold front brought windy conditions and evening showers to metro Phoenix on Friday.
The system started moving in from the north shortly after 3 p.m. and later left roads wet across much of the Valley. Rain started falling in Phoenix shortly after 8:30 p.m. and continued for the next couple of hours.
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which the National Weather Service (NWS) uses for the city’s official readings, recorded 0.15 inches of rain. Phoenix’s rainfall record for Friday’s date is 0.21 inches from 1917.
