Rain, high winds hit Phoenix area Friday evening ahead of Easter weekend

PHOENIX – A cold front brought windy conditions and evening showers to metro Phoenix on Friday.

The system started moving in from the north shortly after 3 p.m. and later left roads wet across much of the Valley. Rain started falling in Phoenix shortly after 8:30 p.m. and continued for the next couple of hours.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which the National Weather Service (NWS) uses for the city’s official readings, recorded 0.15 inches of rain. Phoenix’s rainfall record for Friday’s date is 0.21 inches from 1917.

In addition to the precipitation, some parts of metro Phoenix saw wind gusts measured at 40 mph.

The high temperature in Phoenix peaked at 79 degrees Friday, while the low fell to 53 degrees.

Some higher-elevation spots in the north and northeast Valley received more than a half inch of rain.

What is the Easter weather forecast for metro Phoenix?

Cool conditions are expected to continue Saturday, but no rain is expected for the rest of the weekend. The forecast calls for high temperatures in the low 80s on Sunday. Temperatures are expected to rise to the high 80s by Monday and for the rest of the week.
