PHOENIX — Who’s ready for any emergency?

Arizonans aren’t used to thinking of dealing with disasters, but it happens here often.

“We are all familiar with the massive wildfires that take place every spring and summer, but honestly the biggest disaster, the most dangerous, is flooding,” said Greg Roybal with the Arizona Division of Emergency Management.

Roybal said everyone should have an emergency plan in place.

“Inform yourself of what is happening in your area weatherwise,” Roybal said.

A kit should contain a three-day supply of nonperishable food and water per person. Also, create an evacuation plan and don’t forget to pack up prescriptions and important papers.

“From insurance papers to memorable photos that you don’t want to lose,” Roybal said.

Roybal said that although Arizona may not get tornadoes, hurricanes or earthquakes, there are other emergencies residents should be prepared to handle.

“The disaster can be something as simple as the power in your neighborhood going out for several days.”
