The city of Gilbert is among the best municipalities in the U.S. for buying groceries, according to a recent analysis by WalletHub.
WalletHub totaled the cost of 26 common grocery items across 100 of the largest U.S. cities and compared it with median household income to determine where residents spend the largest share of their income on groceries.
According to the findings, Gilbert residents spend 1.32% of their monthly household income on groceries, the fifth-lowest percentage in the nation.
Only four cities, all in California, had a lower percentage: Fremont (0.91%), San Jose (1.07%), San Francisco (1.10%) and Irvine (1.21%).
Scottsdale and Chandler also had low percentages — 1.46% (10th-lowest) and 1.50% (11th), respectively.
People in Detroit spend the most on groceries, 4.03% of their monthly household income.
With grocery prices on the rise due to inflation and supply issues, Arizona’s relative affordability comes off as a positive trait for the state’s economy.
