Tempe Town Lake is temporarily closed to on-water recreation activities following recent storms that prompted increased water releases from reservoirs across the region.
The City of Tempe announced the closure out of an abundance of caution as the Salt River Project (SRP) releases water from several regional reservoirs, which increases water flow through the lake and raises the potential for debris.
The dam at Tempe Town Lake is operating as designed to allow water to flow through the lake, according to the city’s press release.
All on-water recreation activities are paused until further notice, including paddle boating, kayaking, rowing and sailing.
Staff will continuously evaluate conditions at the lake and determine when it is safe to resume recreational activities.
