Friday’s storms drenched parts of the Valley, and the rain is expected to continue Saturday evening into Sunday.
Parts of the Paradise Valley area got between 2 and 3 inches of measurable rain over a three-hour span from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, while much of north Scottsdale got between 1 and 2 inches.
Most of Maricopa County and areas to the east are expected to get at least an inch of rain Saturday evening into Sunday, and parts of Phoenix could see 2 to 4 inches. The rain is expected to fall over a longer time frame than it did on Friday.
The next round of rain will move into the region tonight and become more widespread and persistent. Flooding will become a major concern as area streams and washes begin to rise. Be extremely careful if you have to travel and avoid driving through any low water crossings. #azwx https://t.co/MT6uqjhiyw

“It’s going to be more of a long duration for a long rain event. So beginning this evening, we’re looking at maybe around the 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. time frame when the rain will push into the region. And it’s going to last pretty much all night and into tomorrow, Sunday,” National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Salerno told KTAR News 92.3 FM. “All of that heavy rain over a long period of time is going to lead to concerns of rises on the normally dry riverbeds as well as the area washes, and that’s going to definitely be a concern for maybe some impassable roads as well.”
Salerno said even though the rain will be spread out over an eight- to 12-hour span, rather than two to three hours like Friday, the precipitation will still pile up, especially with the already accumulated rainfall.
After numerous incidents and power outages occurred Friday due to the weather, city officials are urging those going out for Halloween and on Sunday to use extreme caution when it comes to roadways.
While the Valley has been hit with some intense rainfall this weekend, Salerno said once the new week begins, the rain should be basically finished.
“Once this main system pushes out basically by tomorrow evening, we’re expecting a lot quieter conditions to begin the week,” the meteorologist said. “We’ll still see cooler temperatures in the 70s for the most part across the desert through the middle of the week. But overall, we don’t expect any rain chances to be in the forecast through the entire week.”
“Just let people know to be mindful if you’re expecting to be out and about, especially on Sunday, just to be very, very cautious because we’re expecting a lot of wet roads and potentially some very flooded areas that could be impassable for motorists. So just be very careful out there,” Salerno added.
