2 arrested in connection with shooting Mesa that left 4 injured

Two men were arrested Friday in connection with a Mesa shooting that left four people hospitalized on Monday, authorities said.

The Mesa Police Department identified the men taken into custody as 19-year-olds Jonathan Valladares Mojica and Mark Cortez Garcia.

Mojica was booked into jail on four counts of aggravated assault, assisting a criminal street gang, gang threats and unlawful discharge a firearm.

Meanwhile, Garcia was also booked on four counts of aggravated assault as well as charges of assisting a criminal street gang and gang threats.

Details on the Mesa shooting

Officers were called to the area of Center Street and McKellips Road around 6 p.m. for reports of a shooting.

When police arrived at the scene, they found three men and one woman suffering from injuries. They were all taken to a nearby hospital and their conditions were unknown.

Preliminary information indicated the shooting was an isolated incident, police said.
