Man accused of attacking son-in-law’s killer in Phoenix courtroom

A family member of a murder victim is accused of attacking the defendant during a sentencing hearing this week in Maricopa County Superior Court.

The incident happened Wednesday at a sentencing hearing for Abel Uribe, 33, who pleaded guilty to the 2022 killing of David Navidad-Parra.

Navidad-Parra was shot in Phoenix while trying to sell a car.

Uribe pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, theft of a means of transportation, arson, theft of a credit card, fraudulent use of a credit card and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person, court records show.

Before sentencing, Alberto Ontiveros Sanchez, 55, spoke about Navidad-Parra, who was married to his daughter.

After finishing his remarks at the podium, Ontiveros Sanchez was walking back to the gallery when he turned, lunged and struck Uribe four to five times in the back of the head with a closed fist, according to court records.

The judge cleared the courtroom as staff wrestled Ontiveros Sanchez to the ground.

Ontiveros Sanchez was booked on one count of felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and interfering with a judicial proceeding.

At his first appearance before a judge, his attorney said Ontiveros Sanchez reacted after seeing Uribe allegedly laughing, according to ABC15.

Uribe was sentenced under the terms of his plea agreement, including life with the possibility of release after 25 years on the murder charge and a consecutive prison term for kidnapping.
