Broadway Road closed in west Phoenix for police investigation into man’s death

A major west Phoenix roadway was closed Wednesday morning as investigators worked to determine if a report of shots fired was related to a fatal vehicle-pedestrian collision, authorities said.

Broadway Road was expected to remain closed between 99th and 107th avenues for several hours, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

The call about shots fired near 107th Avenue and Broadway Road came in just after midnight, police said.

As officers were responding to the first call, a separate call came in about a nearby collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

When officers arrived at the crash site, they found a deceased man on Broadway Road as well as the vehicle involved in the collision.

Two people from the vehicle were detained as part of the investigation.
