I-10 closing through downtown tunnels for maintenance
The downtown Phoenix tunnels on Interstate 10 will close in stages this weekend for scheduled maintenance.
Friday night, the eastbound side shuts down between the I-17 “Stack” interchange and the Washington and Jefferson streets off-ramp from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday. Your best move is to exit on southbound I-17 and reconnect with eastbound I-10 at the “Split” interchange near Sky Harbor.
Saturday night, the westbound side gets the same treatment, closing from the “Split” interchange to the Seventh Avenue off-ramp from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday. Head north on I-17 and rejoin westbound I-10 at the “Stack” to get around it.
Westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway closing for widening work
The big one for East Valley drivers is westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway shutting down between Cooper and Alma School roads starting at 10 p.m. Friday and staying closed all the way through 5 a.m. Monday for a widening project.
If you’re coming from the Mesa or Gilbert side, westbound US 60 is your detour. From Chandler, use Pecos or Germann roads to loop back to westbound Loop 202 at Alma School or Price roads.
There’s also a shorter westbound Loop 202 closure between US 60 and Alma School Road from 10 p.m. Saturday to noon Sunday, along with on-ramp shutdowns at University Drive and Broadway Road during that same window.
Eastbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway closing for pavement work
Eastbound Loop 202 closes between Williams Field Road and US 60 from 10 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday while crews handle pavement repairs. The on-ramps at Val Vista Drive and Lindsay Road will also be blocked.
To get around it, take Val Vista Drive or Higley Road north to eastbound US 60, then pick up eastbound Loop 202 on the other side of the work zone.
Westbound Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway narrowing for widening project
The widening project on the Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway in the northwest Valley will pinch the westbound lanes down to just two between I-17 and 51st Avenue from 10 p.m. Friday through 8 a.m. Sunday.
On-ramps at 27th and 35th avenues will be closed, the 51st Avenue off-ramp will be shut and you won’t be able to reach westbound Loop 101 from I-17 in either direction.
Union Hills Drive heading west is the easiest way to bypass the whole thing.
Southbound Loop 101 Pima and Price Freeways losing lanes for pavement maintenance
East Valley commuters should also watch for the southbound Loop 101 narrowing to three left lanes between McKellips Road and Rio Salado Parkway from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.
The on-ramps at McDowell and McKellips roads will be closed.
The connections from southbound Loop 101 to the Loop 202 in both directions will also be shut down, along with the northbound Loop 101 ramp to westbound Loop 202.
Southbound SR 51 closing through central Phoenix for repaving
Central Phoenix drivers will need to find another route with southbound SR 51 shut down from Glendale Avenue to Indian School Road starting 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday for pavement work.
Exit before the closure and use 16th or 24th streets to travel south past the work zone.
Eastbound Loop 303 closing for construction
The eastbound Loop 303 will be closed from 43rd Avenue to just east of the I-17 bridge from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday for construction.
To get around it, take northbound 43rd Avenue to eastbound Dove Valley Road. From there you can access I-17 or continue east on Dove Valley to southbound North Valley Parkway to reach Sonoran Desert Drive.
SR 347 narrowing to one lane near city of Maricopa
If you’re traveling between Maricopa and the Valley this weekend, expect a slower trip.
State Route 347 squeezes down to a single lane in each direction between Casa Blanca Road and Mammoth Way from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday while crews lay fresh pavement.
There is no detour here. Build in extra time and be ready to merge as you approach the work zone.
