Eastbound US 60 was closed for several hours Wednesday in the wake of an early-morning collision that left one person dead, authorities said.
The closure at Higley Road was lifted about 6:45 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
The crash occurred about 1 a.m. Two vehicles were stopped on the right side of the highway to change a flat tire when a third vehicle struck them both, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
A woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and a total of five patients were treated for injuries, DPS said.
DPS said impairment is a suspected factor for the driver of the third vehicle, who suffered injuries that are not life-threatening.
